What is net metering?
Some customers have systems in place that generate electricity, either as a backup if their power goes out or to offset their power use. These can be renewable systems, such as solar panels, or fuel-run systems, such as diesel generators.
If the utility installs a meter that records both energy generated by such a system and energy consumed, this is considered net metering. The usage produced by these meters can look very different from normal usage, depending on the utility.
Does ENGIE allow net metering?
Absolutely, but we need to be aware of it in order to give the customer the full benefit of their generation system. This awareness also prevents things like over hedging and incorrect billing, which can harm both ENGIE and the customer.
When should I notify ENGIE that I want net metering?
We can accommodate a solution at any point in your relationship with ENGIE, but sooner is always better. The ideal time would be before the utility installs your net meter, which would give us time to be ready for the net usage before it arrives.
